AMHERST, Mass. (Sept. 19, 2026) – The Stonehill football team, playing an FBS opponent for the first time in program history, went on the road and fell at Massachusetts by a score of 36-14 Saturday afternoon at McGuirk Alumni Stadium.

The Skyhawks move to 1-3 (1-0 NEC), while the Minutemen go to 3-0 (0-0 MAC).

• Ma'Hkai Wilson and Jayleel Stewart each recorded a sack, with Wilson pacing the defense with seven tackles.
   
• Jack O'Connell finished 10-of-21 with 69 yards and a 13-yard TD pass to Alijah Turner. O'Connell now has 30 career TD passes, moving him into sole possession of seventh in program history, and he has amassed 3,398 yards in his career, good for eighth in the record books.

• Logan Chenette had six punts for an average of 39.3 yards, including a long of 54 yards.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Massachusetts opened a 3-0 lead 2:51 into the first quarter when Derek Morris connected on a 30-yard field goal. On the ensuing Stonehill possession, Jack O'Connell sent pass into the right side of the endzone, finding Alijah Turner for a 13-yard touchdown, giving the Skyhawks a 7-3 edge at 9:15.

The Minutemen went back ahead minutes later when T.Y. Harding scampered into the endzone for a 56-yard score with 7:33 to play in the opening frame, 10-7. With 1:38 left in the first, Morris hit another field goal, this time from 55 yards out to make it a 13-7 contest.

In the second half, Massachusetts extended its lead to 19-7 when Curtis Kimmons IV added a one-yard TD rush at 9:31 of the third. Morris made his third field goal of the afternoon with 2:15 remaining in the third quarter, 22-7.

Early in the fourth, the Minutemen tacked on a one-yard rushing score by William Watson III to go up, 29-7, and then added a 51-yard TD reception from Watson to Harding to pull ahead, 36-7.

Later in the frame, Derek Varley caught a two-yard pass from Drew Eason, 36-14, with 3:32 to go.

Stonehill will travel to Athens, Ohio to take on its second-straight FBS opponent in Ohio on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 3:30 p.m.
