ATHENS, Ohio. (Sept. 26, 2026) – The Stonehill football team competed against its second-straight FBS opponent, dropping a road game at Ohio by a score of 35-7 at Peden Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Skyhawks move to 1-4 (1-0 NEC), while the Bobcats go to 2-2 (0-0 MAC).
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS:
- Christopher Gill intercepted a pass in the first half, the first pick of his career.
- Tyler Bannon recorded a quarterback hurry and deflected the pass that Gill intercepted. Bannon finished the game with five tackles.
- Ma'Hkai Wilson and Gene Townsel both led the team with nine tackles each.
- Jack O'Connell was 11-of-18 for 117 yards and a touchdown. O'Connell moves up to a sixth-place tie with Anton Stoneking with 31 career touchdowns. O'Connell also stands eighth with 3,515 career passing yards.
- Cole Clarke caught five passes for 64 yards, including a 32-yard TD reception.
- Logan Chenette had six punts for a 41.5-yard average, including a long of 50.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Ohio went up, 7-0, with 1:46 left in the first quarter on a 18-yard TD rush by Matt Vezza. Stonehill tied the game, 7-7, early in the second at the 13:25 mark as
Jack O'Connell found
Cole Clarke for a 32-yard touchdown on 4
th and 8.
The Bobcats regained the lead, 14-7, with another rushing score, this time a four-yard TD by Victor Rosa with 8:15 remaining in the half. Ohio added another touchdown in the third stanza, as Vezza connected with Dom Dorwart for a 42-yard pitch and catch to make it 21-7 at 8:01. Later in the frame, Ohio went up, 28-7, following a one-yard rush by Vezza with 4:27 to go in the third.
In the fourth, Rosa tacked on a six-yard TD run, 35-7, at the 7:13 mark.

Stonehill will have a bye next week before visiting Sacred Heart Saturday, Oct. 10 at 12 p.m.
