CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Stonehill volleyball team opened the BC Invitational on Thursday night against host Boston College. The Eagles were able to get the best of the Skyhawks in three sets.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore Sam Loyd led the Skyhawks with 10 kills
- Senior Addy Frye hit .263 with eight kills, while also recording six digs.
- Junior Gabi Polishuck anchored the defense with nine digs.
- Sophomore Kendra Sawyer paced the offense with 18 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Skyhawks traded blows early before Boston College built a mid-set lead. Trailing 21–15, Stonehill staged a late 4–0 run behind back-to-back service aces from sophomore
Sam Loyd to trim the deficit to 21–19, forcing the Eagles to reset before BC closed out the opening frame.
The Eagles pulled away in the second set behind a hitting percentage of .355 to take a 2-0 match lead.
Stonehill rebound in the final set, swinging at a .290 clip with 13 kills. Seniors
Addy Frye and
Sammy Franco provided crucial secondary scoring, keeping the Skyhawks within striking distance at 23–21 before Boston College secured the final two points to seal the sweep.
