HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set was a barn-burner with the two teams exchanging points early. New Hampshire native junior
Annabelle Svenson provided the Skyhawks with a spark with a block to give Stonehill a 15-14 lead, but Wildcats responded with a 5-1 run to take the first set, 25-22.
Stonehill looked rejuvenated in the second set, jumping out an early 4-0 advantage. They continued to build upon their lead following a service ace by sophomore
Sam Loyd to increase the spread to five, 8-3. However, midway through the match, the Wildcats responded with a 5-0 run to go in front 15-11 and they never looked back to take the two-set lead, 25-16.
The Skyhawks kept within striking distance early in the third set, but UNH utilized a 6-1 mid-set run to build an 18-9 cushion. Stonehill answered with a 3-0 run behind kills from Loyd and Svenson but the Wildcats were able to close out the match, 25-17.
