EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.
(August 29, 2009) - East Stroudsburg University, ranked
seventh in the Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association
(NFCHA) Division II preseason poll rode an early 3-0 lead to
victory over 8th-ranked Stonehill College in
non-conference field hockey action at Whitenight Field this
afternoon.
Junior Caitlin Brownley
(Bilgerville, Pa./Bilgerville) scored a pair of goals for
East Stroudsburg who opened a 3-0 lead in the opening 27 minutes of
the game and held on the rest of the way. Classmate Joanna
Reckley (Temple, Pa./Muhlenberg) also netted a goal for
the Warriors.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Maureen Ordnung (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) shined
in just her second collegiate contest for East Stroudsburg, making
14 saves (nine second half) to preserve the victory as Stonehill
posted a remarkable 27-8 advantage in shots for the game. Junior
Courtney Osier (South Dennis,
Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) finished with five stops in the
cage for the Skyhawks.
Stonehill got goals from senior
All-American Jackie Ladino (North Dartmouth,
Mass./Dartmouth) and junior Courtney Foley
(Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield Memorial).
Trailing by three, Stonehill
mounted a comeback effort, beginning with Foley's goal as time
expired in the opening half off a penalty corner. Ladino scored her
20th career goal 6:11 into the second half off a feed
from junior Michaela Deasy (North Falmouth,
Mass./Falmouth). However, Ordnung kept the Skyhawks off
the scoreboard from there as East Stroudsburg held on for the win.
Stonehill (0-1, 0-0 NE-10) is right
back in action tomorrow when it visits top-ranked and defending
NCAA Division II National Champions Bloomsburg University at noon.
East Stroudsburg (1-0, 0-0 PSAC) hosts Merrimack College tomorrow
at 1 p.m.
