Osier stops all three AIC
shots on goal to lead Skyhawks to victory
EASTON, Mass. (October
13, 2010) – Stonehill College, ranked seventh in
this week's Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association
(NFHCA) Division II poll, returned to action following an eight day
layoff to claim a 2-0 victory over American International College
in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at W.B. Mason
Stadium this afternoon.
Senior goaltender Courtney
Osier (South Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) made three
saves in posting her third shutout of the season (14th
career) as Stonehill remained perfect in NE-10 play with the win.
Junior Kim Steiner (Little Falls, N.Y./Little
Falls) posted six stops in the cage for American
International. The Skyhawks finished with a 12-7 edge in shots and
penalty corners for the match.
Senior captain Lindsey
Pinkham (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan Area) and junior
Laura
Menke (Greenland, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) scored
goals for Stonehill. Junior Kathryn Nelson
(Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) chipped in with an assist.
Pinkham has now notched a point in five-straight games for the
Skyhawks, while Nelson has a point in four of their last five
during the current five game winning streak.
Stonehill broke the deadlock less
than five minutes before halftime when a shot by Pinkham was
directed into the cage by an American International defender at
30:14 for her sixth goal of the season. The Skyhawks got a valuable
insurance goal just over 12 minutes into the second half as Menke
one-timed a cross from the right side by Nelson into an open net
for her second goal of the season at 47:38.
Stonehill (8-4, 4-0 NE-10) returns
to action on Saturday when it hosts Adelphi University for a key
NE-10 matchup at noon. American International (6-5, 3-2 NE-10)
hosts Franklin Pierce University on Saturday at 6 p.m.
