Skyhawks net two second
half goals, defense holds hosts to one shot
COLCHESTER, Vt. (October 2,
2010) – Stonehill College, ranked tenth in this
week's Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA)
Division II poll, scored two second half goals and held Saint
Michael's College to just one shot in posting a 2-0 victory in
Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Duffy Field
today.

from senior Lindsey
Pinkham (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan) and junior
Laura
Menke (Greenland, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas). Freshman
Devin
Ingersoll (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) dished her
sixth assist of the season to notch a point in her third-straight
contest.
Senior Courtney Osier
(South Dennis, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) was untested in goal
to post her second shutout of the season (13th career)
as her defense in front of her, led by seniors Laura Noce (Sudbury,
Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) and Courtney Foley
(Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield Memorial) held Saint Michael's
to just one second half shot. Junior Jackie Stacey (West
Windsor, Vt./Woodstock Union) finished with four saves in
the cage for the Purple Knights. The Skyhawks finished with an 11-1
advantage in shots and a 6-2 margin for penalty corners.
After a scoreless first half, Menke
scored the only goal Stonehill would need, off an Ingersoll pass,
for her second marker of the season at 44:29. The Skyhawks got an
insurance goal with 2:44 left in regulation when Pinkham poked in a
rebound for her fifth goal of the season, marking her
third-straight match with a goal.
Stonehill (6-4, 2-0 NE-10) is back
in action on Tuesday when it visits rival Bentley University for an
NE-10 matchup at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Wednesday,
October 13, to host American International College at 4 p.m. Saint
Michael's (2-6, 0-1 NE-10) hosts Franklin Pierce University on
Tuesday at 4 p.m.
