Sophomore All-American posts second-highest high jump in country this season, automatically qualifies for nationals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (December 12, 2010) – Sophomore All-American Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass./BC High) posted the second-highest high jump in the country this season regardless of division, automatically qualifying for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in the process, to lead Stonehill College at the Harvard Open at Albert H. Gordon Track on Saturday.

Thomas cleared 7-feet, 1-inch in the high jump to mark the highest jump in all of Division II so far this season and the second-tallest jump in any level of the NCAA indoor season behind just University of Mississippi sophomore Ricky Robertson's height of 7-05 on December 3. With his height, Thomas automatically qualifies for the NCAA Championship in Albuquerque, N.M., in March for the second-straight year. He was an All-American for the high jump for both the indoor and outdoor seasons as a freshman.

Thomas also placed third in the 60-meter high hurdles with his time of 8.19-seconds in the final after qualifying third with a time of 8.27 in his preliminary heat. Freshman Xavier Harris-Dixon (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford) continues to push Thomas early in his first collegiate season, placing fourth in the final with a time of 8.50-seconds to qualify for the New England Championships in February after qualifying fifth for the final in 8.51.

Junior Pak Lul (Portland, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) qualified for the New England Championships for the 400-meter dash with his time of 50.35-seconds to place tenth out of 78 competitors. Sophomore Colin Prior (Georgetown, Mass./St. John's Prep) was 24th in 52.09.

Junior Dan Kincade is the first Stonehill athlete to clear 50-feet in the indoor weight throw.

Sophomore Kevin McCann (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) placed fifth in the pole vault, breaking his own school record (13-11.25) for the second-straight week, by clearing 14-05.25. The 4.40-meter vault is just 0.40-meters shy of the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard and 0.15 shy of the New England Championship qualifying mark.

Junior Dan Kincade (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) nearly qualified for the New England Championships in the weight throw with a school-record distance of 51-feet, 8.50-inches to place sixth out of 44 entries – just 0.09-meters shy of the NE Championship qualifying standard. He broke a nearly nine-year old Stonehill record of 49'5" set by Matt Ellis in the Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Championships at Moore Fieldhouse on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University on February 16, 2002.

Other Stonehill highlights include:

Sophomore Ethan Penney (Haverhill, Mass./Haverhill) finished ninth out of 76 entries in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:47.21.
