Skyhawks shut out in first loss of season

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 14, 2010) – The Stonehill College men’s soccer team was dealt its first loss of the season Tuesday, falling 2-0 to host Southern New Hampshire University in a Northeast-10 matchup. Southern New Hampshire, currently ranked fourth in the nation and first in the region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), got two goals from senior Michael Adam (Ludlow, Mass./Ludlow) in the victory.

Adam scored on a penalty kick in the 27th minute, and Stonehill was unable to respond early as Penmen goalkeeper Jon Mayo (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack/New England College) made three first-half stops to keep the Skyhawks off the board. Adam struck again in the second half, collecting a loose ball and dribbling through traffic in front of the net to give Southern New Hampshire a 2-0 lead in the 49th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Brandon McFarlane (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) finished with four saves for the Skyhawks, and Southern New Hampshire got four from Mayo.

Stonehill (3-1, 1-1 NE-10) returns to Skyhawk Field on Saturday to host NE-10 rival Bentley University at 7 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (5-0, 2-0 NE-10) visits American International College on Saturday at 6 p.m.
