WORCESTER, Mass. (February 16, 2013) – The Stonehill College Skyhawks skated to a 6-0 victory over the Assumption College Greyhounds Saturday evening at the Charles J. Buffone Arena in Worcester Mass.

Sophomore defenseman Brendan Greene (Weymouth, Mass.) led the way for the Skyhawks with two goals on the evening. Junior assistant captain Bryan Rooney (Canton, Mass.) notched his 15th goal of the season, while sophomore Stephen Balsamo (Atkinson, N.H.) earned his sixth of the year. Freshmen Anthony D'Elia (Stamford, Conn.) and Connor Fallon (Weymouth, Mass.) also collected goals for the Skyhawks who swept the season series with Assumption with the win.

Freshman goaltender Matthew Palella (Chicago, Ill.) stopped 30 shots, including 12 shots in both the second and third periods to earn his first career shutout. Bobby Bowden (Springfield, Mass.) recorded 41 saves for Assumption on the night. Stonehill outshot the Greyhounds 48-30.

Following a scoreless first period in which Bowden hauled in 21 saves, the Skyhawks recorded their first goal of the game at 3:13 of the second period when Travis Army (Englewood, Colo.) fed an open Greene who found the back of the net. Greene tallied his second goal of the game at 19:35 of the second on assists from Bill Carey (Weymouth, Mass.) and Richard Harris (Grand Island, N.Y.).

Rooney opened the third period scoring at 4:43 of the stanza. He took a feed from freshman Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, N.Y.) and senior captain Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass.) and

slipped it past Bowden. Balsamo notched the fourth goal of the game for Stonehill just 0:36 seconds later, assisted by Nate Soter (Danvers, Mass.) and Sean McNeil (Canton, Mass.).

Dorgan added his second assist of the game and his 15th of the season when he and Army set up D'Elia to make it 5-0. Fallon finished off the scoring at 16:29 of the third when he notched his second tally of the year.
