Stonehill Finishes Fourth at NE-10 Championships

Skyhawks wrap up weekend with three All-Northeast-10 performers 

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (May 2, 2015) – The Stonehill College men's track and field program, ranked fifth in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) Division II East Regional rankings, turned in a fourth place team finish at the 2015 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University, which concluded at Jess Dow Field today.

Stonehill finished the two day event with 94 points, just 4.50 points behind third place Franklin Pierce University (98.50). Southern Connecticut State University won the team championship for the 13th straight year with 211 points, while American International College was second with 163 points. The Skyhawks finished the weekend with three All-Northeast-10 Conference performers (top two), including Anthony Innamorati (Clinton, Massachusetts/Clinton) who won the individual champions in the pole vault on Friday by clearing a height of 14-feet, 1.25-inches.

Senior All-American Nick Staley (Medway, Massachusetts/BC High) led the way for Stonehill on Saturday by earning All-Northeast-10 honors when he placed second in the high jump with his height of 6-feet, 6.75-inches.

Senior Robert Smith (Woburn, Massachusetts/Woburn Memorial) narrowly missed out on All-Conference honors in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing third in 55.08-seconds. Freshman Jason Dimmick (Sutton, Massachusetts/Sutton) placed seventh at 57.06-seconds.

Junior Mason Griffin (Wellesley, Massachusetts/Wellesley) placed third in the shot put, leading a group of four Stonehill entries with his distance of 50-feet, 8-inches. Freshman John Irving (Wareham, Massachusetts/Wareham) also earned a point for the Skyhawks with his throw of 46-08.75, while senior Daniel Cormier (Methuen, Massachusetts/Methuen) was 11th at 43-00.50.

Freshman Mark Hamalian (West Bridgewater, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) finished in third place in the decathlon with 5,615 points. Over the two days, Hamalian placed third in the javelin throw (151-08) and 110-meter high hurdles (17.84-seconds) on Saturday to go with his Friday results. He was also fourth for the long jump (20-feet, 10-inches) and shot put (30-01.75) to go with a fifth place effort and fifth in the 400-meter run (54.35-seconds).


Senior Robert Smith was third in the 400-meter hurdles and was also part of two relay teams on Saturday.

Junior All-American Patrick Cooney (Douglaston, New York/Archbishop Molloy) finished fourth in the 800-meter run and led a pack of eight Stonehill runners in the field of 50 entries for the event. Cooney paced three Skyhawks in the top ten with his time of 1:53.69. Junior All-American Nick Kirkpatrick (Carmel, Indiana/Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) placed eighth in 1:54.44, while senior All-American Dan Zawalich (Paxton, Massachusetts/St. John's of Shrewsbury) was ninth in 1:54.46.

Senior Bryan Wilcox (Plantsville, Connecticut/Southington) and sophomore Daniel Nolan (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) both scored points for Stonehill in the 5000-meter run. Wilcox ran fifth in 14:55.38, while Nolan finished eighth in 15:21.48.

Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay finished fourth in 3:20.37. Senior All-American Teague Grubel (Phoenix, Arizona/Shadow Mountain) ran the lead leg in 1:39.66, before sophomore All-American Matt Baldasare (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) completed the second leg in 51.05-seconds, freshman Joshua Hubbell (Gloucester, Massachusetts/St. John's Prep) finished the third leg in 49.67 and then Smith completed the anchor leg.

Baldasare, Grubel, Smith and freshman Patrick Ahern (Charlotte, North Carolina/Providence Day School) were also part of Stonehill's 4x100-meter relay team that finished sixth in 43.05-seconds.

Other Stonehill Results of Note:

Junior Morgan Johnson (West Newbury, Massachusetts/St. John's Prep) placed eighth in the discus throw with his top distance of 129-feet, 1-inch.

Grubel and Baldasare ran ninth and tenth, respectively in the 400-meter dash. Grubel was ninth in 50.22-seconds, while Baldasare finished tenth in 50.36-seconds, while Ahern placed 18th in 52.22.

Freshman Jon Naval (Stratford, Connecticut/Bunnell) placed tenth in the triple jump with a distance of 42-feet, 6-inches.

Stonehill's qualifiers will compete at the New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, next weekend running Thursday (decathlon day one), Friday and Saturday in Cambridge.
