Borofski Wins Mile, Women's Track and Field Finish Ninth at New England Championship

Borofski earns second individual New England Championship, first in the mile, breaks school record

BOSTON, Mass. (FEBRUARY 25, 2017) – The Stonehill College women's indoor track and field team, ranked second in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Regional finished ninth at the New England Championship at the Reggie Lewis Center on Saturday, February 25.

Lyons earned her first All-New England honor

Stonehill College combined for 36.50 points, earning ninth place. Northeastern University finished first among 35 teams at the championship totaling 151 points. The University of Rhode Island placed second with 59 points, as Southern Connecticut State University took a close third with 57 points and UMass Amherst finished fourth with 48 points. MIT snuck in the top five totaling 41.50 points.

Senior Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) earned her second individual New England Championship, as she finished first in the mile with a time of 4:49.71. Borofski was named the 3000-meter champion last year at the event. This mark puts her ranked 10th in Division II on the NCAA Indoor Qualifying List and she also broke her previous mile record from the NE10 Championship.

Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) followed Borofski finishing 11th in the mile with a time of 5:04.06. Senior Aisha McAdams (North Kingstown, Rhode Island/North Kingstown) fell two seconds behind Lastra crossing the finish line 15th clocking in at 5:06.16.

Sophomore Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/Union 32) earned her first and second All-New England honors after finishing third in the 200-meter finals and fourth in the 60-meter finals. Dexter ran a 25.07 200-meter dash, while she also sprinted a 7.78 60-meter dash.

Freshman Shayla Lyons (Westerlo, New York/Bishop Maginn/Berne-Knox Westerlo) earned her first All-New England recognition with a throw of 12.67m (41ft, 7inch) in the shot put, finishing sixth in the field. Junior Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) fell just short of All-New England honors with a ninth-place finish tossing the shot put a distance of 12.20m (40ft, .5inch).

Sophomore Courtney Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) jumped a height of 1.61m (5ft, 3.25inch) at the high jump, while freshman Madison Ward (Holliston, Massachusetts/Holliston) matched Daggett with a mark of 1.61m (5ft, 3.25inch), good for ninth.

The 4x800-meter relay that consisted of Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough), Alexandra Buonfiglio (Lynnfield, Massachusetts/Lynnfield) Danika Wayss (Warwick, Rhode Island/Pilgrim), and Lastra finished 10th with a time of 9:36.25 in the 15-team field. The 4x400m relay which had Claire Hurtado (Newington, Connecticut/Northwest Catholic), Megan Bobinski (Torrington, Connecticut/Holy Cross), Ashley Colarusso (Tewksbury, Massachusetts/Tewksbury Memorial), and Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle and Cassidy) earned 13th with a time of 4:01.10, good for 13th in the field of 18 teams.

Junior Azariah Boyd (Brockton, Massachusetts/Brockton) placed 16th in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 9.09.

Freshman Jordan Callahan (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) ran in her first New England Championship earning 17th in the 3000-meter race with a time of 10:38.90.

Sophomore Jackie Cutillo (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) fell 20th in the 5000-meter race with a time of 18:41.68.

Stonehill takes some time off before sending a small group to the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships which will take place on March 10-11 at the CrossPlex Complex in Birmingham, Alabama.
