SYRACUSE, N.Y. (October 11, 2024) - The Stonehill College volleyball team defeated Le Moyne College in a four-set,
Northeast Conference matchup at Ted Grant Court Friday night. The Skyhawks and Dolphins have another NEC matchup tomorrow at 1 p.m.
Stonehill 3, Le Moyne 1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21)
Highlights
- Sophomore Georgia Murphy (Plano, Texas) had a team-high 16.5 points on 13 kills, three block assists, and two service aces. Murphy also had four digs and a .320 hit percentage in the win.
- Junior Mia Berardino (Rowley, Mass) tallied 11 kills and 14 points with six digs, two aces, and two block assists.
- Sophomore Abby Farrell (Reading, Mass.) recorded nine points on five points and two solo blocks to go with two block assists and a service ace.
- Sophomore libero Sarah Frager (Mooresville, N.C.) led the team with 15 digs on the defensive end while tacking on a point with an ace.
- Sophomore Amaya Parnell (Portland, Ore.) paced Stonehill with 18 assists while notching two kills on four attack attempts and six digs.
- Sophomore Maddie Schamaun (Rockville, Md.) also chipped in 16 assists, three digs, and an ace.
SET 1 | Le Moyne jumped out to a 6-3 lead to start the first set, but back-to-back kills from junior
Kaitlyn Watson (Bellevue, Wash.) gave Stonehill a 9-8 lead. The Skyhawks didn't trail for the rest of the set as Berardino led Stonehill with two kills en route to taking a 1-0 lead.
SET 2 | Three kills from Murphy fueled an early 8-5 advantage for Stonehill, and the Skyhawks led until a 4-0 run from the Dolphins gave them a 14-12 lead. Le Moyne continued to build on its momentum, rattling off three straight points to take a 17-13 lead. Stonehill had a 3-0 run of its own and even tied the match at 23-23 but the Dolphins closed out the set with the final two points to tie the match 1-1.
SET 3 | Stonehill started the third set strong, going up 5-1 as three different Skyhawks recorded kills. Le Moyne strung together four straight scores to trim its deficit to 11-9. but Stonehill didn't give up its lead for the entirety of the third set, winning 25-22. Murphy had four kills to lead the Skyhawks in the frame.
SET 4 | Stonehill began the fourth with a 3-1 lead until four straight scores from the Dolphins put them ahead 5-3. Le Moyne would cling to a 12-9 lead, but a service error from the Dolphins sparked a 5-0 run for the Skyhawks as Stonehill recaptured the lead, 14-12. Stonehill wouldn't let up, using another big run with two kills from Murphy to go ahead 23-17. The Dolphins put together a late rally of three straight scores, but it was too late as Stonehill closed out the match, winning the fourth set, 25-21.
