How It Happened
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes of action, which saw Stonehill edge out Lake Superior State in shots on goal, 13-11, the Skyhawks opened the scoring with two goals in the second period.
At the 3:28 mark of the middle frame, Nicolas sent a shot in on net from a tough angle from the far side boards at Taffy Abel Arena. With the shot heading in on goal, Applebee covered his right-side post. However, the shot redirected off the first-year netminder's left pad and into the back of the net for the game's opening score, giving the Skyhawks a 1-0 lead early in the second.
Just over five minutes later, Galante would double the Skyhawk's advantage with his first of two goals on the night. After junior
Alexander Tertyshny sent a shot in on goal, Galante would be there to pounce on the rebound and put a shot into the back of the net to put the Skyhawks up by two on the scoreboard.
In the third period, the Lakers would cut into their deficit at the 4:52 mark when Milburn lit the lamp on his first goal of the season off assists from Herrington and Bushy. Following Milburn's goal, Lake Superior State would continue to apply offensive zone pressure, peppering Androlewicz with nine shots over the next six minutes of action.
However, despite the offensive zone pressure from the Lakers, Stonehill would regain its two-goal lead at the 11:19 mark of the third. Sophomore
Brady Hunter found Gaudette skating down into the slot from the blue line, who wristed a shot over the glove of Applebee and into the back of the net.
The Skyhawks capped off the score and sealed the decisive 4-1 victory over Lake Superior State with an empty net goal at the 18:45 mark of the final frame of regulation off the stick of Galante, marking his second goal and third point of the night.
