CHICAGO, Ill. (October 25, 2024) – The Stonehill College volleyball team played its first-ever Northeast Conference contest against Chicago State, falling in three sets at the Jacoby Dickens Center Friday night.
Chicago State 3, Stonehill 0 (11-25, 25-27, 15-25)
Highlights
- Junior Mia Berardino (Rowley, Mass.) led Stonehill with five kills while tallying three digs, one assist, one service ace, and a solo block.
- Sophomore Georgia Murphy (Plano, Texas) recorded a team-high eight points as she had a season-high four service aces to go with four kills and five digs.
- Chicago State's Patrycja Lagida led all scorers with 15 points on ten kills and five service aces, attacking at a .273 clip.
- This was a first-ever matchup between Stonehill and Chicago State as this is the Cougars' first season as members of the Northeast Conference. CSU improves to 7-0 in NEC play with the win.
SET 1 | CSU took a 10-1 lead to begin the match, but four straight Skyhawk scores, three of which were aces by senior
Bianca Fitch (Hopedale, Mass.), made it 10-5. The Cougars scored the next five and outscored Stonehill 15-6 to win the first set, 25-11.
SET 2 | Four errors from Chicago State, a kill from Berardino, and two aces gave Stonehill a 7-4 lead early in the second set. The Cougars tied the score at 8-8, but the Skyhawks stayed on the attack, scoring five of the next six points to go up 13-9. Chicago State would keep the set close before eventually tying the Stonehill, 17-17. Stonehill scored the next two and even went up 22-19, but the Cougars rallied to tie it up again, 23-23. The tenth and final tie of the set was at 25-25 which was followed by two straight scores for Chicago State to win the set, 27-25.
SET 3 | Stonehill went ahead 3-1, followed by a 5-0 Chicago State run to take a 6-3 advantage. The Cougars would lead for the remainder of the set as the Skyhawks couldn't put together a late rally, falling 25-15, dropping the match in three sets.
