COLUMBUS, Ohio. (October 25, 2024) – The Stonehill College women's hockey team fell to the nationally ranked #2 Ohio State University, 11-0, in the 2024 Women's Ice Breaker Tournament opening game at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio, Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Skyhawks dropped to 1-7 overall, while the Buckeyes improved to 8-2-2 on the season.

  • First-year netminder Alexsa Caron made history setting a single-game saves program record by stopping 61 shots throughout the night.
  • Caron is the second New England Women's Hockey Alliance goalie this week to have an outing of 60+ saves, joining Saint Anselm's goaltender Ava Hills, who made 61 against Yale on Wednesday.

How it Happened
Ohio State came out of the gates strong in the first period, owning offensive zone possession and tallying 33 shots on goal throughout the opening 20 minutes of play. However, despite facing 33 shots in the first period, Caron and the Skyhawk's defense would hold the Buckeyes to three lamplighters in the first off the sticks of Matthews, Dunne, and St. Martin, respectively.

Coming out of the first intermission, Ohio State continued to apply offensive zone pressure on the Skyhawks, compiling 18 shot attempts over the first 11 minutes of the middle frame. The Buckeyes eventually found the back of the net for two goals in the second period of action, at the 12:23 and 13:34 marks, respectively, by St. Martin and Amos.

The Buckeyes carried their momentum into the third period, scoring six more goals while shutting out the Skyhawks to secure the 11-0 win. Caron tallied 12 more saves in the third to set a new single-game program record with 61 saves in the non-conference contest.
