EASTON, Mass. (October 26, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team defeated Wagner College, 4-3, for its first Northeast Conference win of the 2024-25 season. With the win, the Skyhawks improved to 3-0 to start the year, while the Seahawks dropped to 1-2 overall.
 
Highlights

• Senior Jacob Wilhelm Krefting posted a double-win on the day earning a victory alongside his team-leading doubles partner of junior Mark Kröll before taking home his sixth singles win of the season at the No. 4 slot.
• Freshman classmates Guillermo Bennaton and Nicolas Arredondo also earned their respective second and fourth singles wins of the season.
• Sophomore Alexis Chastang picked up his second win of the season at the No. 6 singles position for the Skyhawks.
• Graduate student Carlos Rodriguez Gonzalez led Wagner College as a double winner on the day.
• Senior Jordan Hunte also registered an individual win in singles competition for the Seahawks.

How It Happened

• Wagner's top doubles pairing of Rodriguez Gonzalez and freshman Leon Schmidt took down sophomore Jacob Borch-Nielsen and Arredondo, 7-6, at the No. 1 doubles position.
• Krefting and Kröll forced a decisive third match of doubles competition after earning their team-leading seventh win of the season, 6-3, over graduate students Antoine Nivault and Gabriele Zugarelli.
• Junior Pablo Rodriguez Gonzalez and senior Jordan Hunte clinched the doubles point for the Seahawks with a 6-2 victory over Bennaton and freshman Javier Gutierrez.
• Carlos Rodriguez Gonzalez picked up his double win of the day, defeating Borch-Nielsen in three sets, 7-5, 6-7, 6-1, at No. 1 singles.
• Bennaton and Arredondo followed and picked up the Skyhawk's first two points with individual victories over Schmidt and Nivault at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
• Krefting secured his double win on the day with a three-set battle, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, against Pablo Rodriguez Gonzalez at the No. 4 singles slot.
• Hunte walked away victorious in three sets, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3, over Kröll at No. 5 singles to force a match-deciding No. 6 singles slot between Chastang and freshman Vibhu Challagundla.
• Chastang clinched the Skyhawks' overall match victory with a thrilling 7-6, 6-4 win over Challagundla.

Stonehill (3-0, 1-0 NEC) rounded out its fall slate on Saturday against NEC opponent Wagner College and will return to action in the spring.
