How it Happened
Syracuse scored the game's opening goal at 1:08 into the contest following a blocked shot by junior
Gracie Sacca; Kinsler
would control a rebound and send a wrister into the back of the cage past Caron to give the Orange an early one-goal advantage.
The two sides would trade shot attempts over the next five minutes of action until 5:48, where the Orange would head on the power-play following a hooking penalty on sophomore defender
Pusle Dyring-Andersen. Less than 30 seconds into Syracuse's first power-play opportunity of the night, White would light the lamp for her first of the season and 19th career goal.
Throughout the remainder of the opening period, both sides played to an even matchup, each registering 12 shot attempts, with Stonehill tallying five on its first power-play chance in the final five minutes of the 20-minute period.
Heading into the second period, the Skyhawks would look to get on the board and cut into their two-goal deficit. Stonehill would pepper the Kelley with five shots in the opening three minutes of play in the second, with Achtyl, Dyring-Andersen, Whynot, and junior
Lucie Turcotte each registering shots on goal. However, Kelley would stand tall in the net, stifling the Skyhawk's scoring opportunities and keeping them off the board.
After the opening few minutes of the second period, Syracuse would head on the attack, outshooting the Skyhawks 19-5 throughout the frame and extending its lead to three heading into the final frame of regulation.
Coming out of the break, Stonehill continued to show their resilience, tallying ten shots throughout the final 20 minutes of play while blocking a trio of shots off the sticks of the Orange. Despite the valiant effort to mount a comeback, a goal by D'Arcy at the 18:11 mark of the third would cap off the scoring and seal the victory for Syracuse by a final score of 4-0.
