Men's Tennis Secures Comeback Victory Over Franklin Pierce

EASTON, Mass. (October 8, 2024) – Following a sweep of doubles competition by Franklin Pierce, the Stonehill College men's tennis team battled back in singles play to secure a, 5-2, comeback victory over the Ravens at the Charles Watt Tennis Courts Tuesday afternoon.

  • Stonehill's victory over Franklin Pierce marks the 10th win overall and first win against the Ravens since April 6, 2017.   
  • Sophomore Jacob Borch-Nielsen and senior Jacob Wilhelm Krefting each notched their team-leading fourth singles win of the seasons, while junior Mark Kröll earned his third of the year.
  • Sophomore Javier Pemueller earned his first career win at No. 6 singles positions.
  • Graduate student Noe Martin picked up a pair of wins on the day at the No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles positions for Franklin Pierce.  
How It Happened
  • Franklin Pierce's top doubles pairing of Martin and graduate student Joe Herin defeated Borch-Nielsen and freshman Nicolas Arredondo, 6-0, at No. 1 doubles. 
  • Postgrad classmates Alejandro Ortiz and Ralph Hiebel earned the Raven's doubles point in the No. 2 slot after edging out Kröll and Krefting 7-6.
  • Graduate student Paul McLellan and junior Orlando Guerrero capped off the sweep of doubles competition with a 6-3 victory over the freshman pairing of Guillermo Bennaton and Gutierrez.
  • Borch-Nielsen earned the Skyhawks their first point on the day at No. 1 singles, defeating Herin, 6-2, 6-2.
  • At No. 2 singles, Bennaton and Martin would go back and forth playing to a super tiebreaker. Martin would eventually walk away victoriously and secure his double win on the day with a match score of 5-7, 6-4, 16-14.
  • Arredondo and Krefting added Borch-Nielsen's triumph with two wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
  • Arredondo took down Hiebel, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3, while Krefting earned a 6-0 victory in the first set before winning by retirement in the second against Ortiz.
  • Kröll battled Guerrero to a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. singles before Pemueller clinched the match victory at No. 6 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win over McLellan.
