Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (October 22, 2024) – Five Stonehill College men's tennis team members competed this past weekend at the ITA New England Regional Tournament at the Beren Tennis Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Representing the Skyhawks at the ITA Regional Tournament were senior
Jacob Wilhelm Krefting, junior
Mark Kröll, sophomore
Jacob Borch-Nielsen, as well as the freshmen pairing of
Guillermo Bennaton and
Nicolas Arredondo.
Bennaton and Borch-Nielsen opened competition on Thursday and Friday in singles play. Bennaton matched up against senior
Alex Knox-Jones of Dartmouth College in the qualifying draw on Thursday, while Borch-Nielsen battled Sacred Heart's senior
Matyas Vencl in the round of 64 of Friday's Open singles competition.
Krefting and Kröll continued their strong Fall slate, earning their team-leading sixth win of the season as a double pairing in the opening round of the competition Friday afternoon. The double combination teamed up to defeat Merrimack's senior
Charles Robertson and junior
Kabir Chhabria, 8-5, before falling on Saturday, 8-2, to senior
Adit Sinha and senior
Nathan Mao of Cornell.
After having a bye in the round of 64, Borch-Nielsen and Arredondo earned the program's first-ever victory over an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponent in Boston College's pairing of senior
Aidan Pack and senior
Jake Vassel on Saturday, 8-7. The Skyhawks' No. 1 doubles pairing eventually fell, 8-5, in the round of 16 on Sunday to senior
Alex Finkelstein and junior
Alexander Bravo of Brown University.
