BRIGHTON, Mass. (September 21, 2026) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team competed at the Boston University Invitational at the Daly Tennis Courts in Brighton, Mass., this past weekend, facing host Boston University, Merrimack, Hamilton, Babson, and Siena.
Across two days of doubles and singles competition, the Skyhawks posted a 15-6 combined record, finishing Saturday's doubles segment 8-2 before recording a 7-4 mark in singles play on Sunday.
The doubles tandems of
Guillermo Bennaton and
Javier Gutierrez,
Nicolas Arredondo and
Joao Machado,
Alessandro Munoz and
Hector Cebrian, and
Hayden Grech and
Alexis Chastang each went a perfect 2-0 on Saturday.
Bennaton and Gutierrez opened their day with a 7-5 victory over Hamilton's Alexei Katelevsky and Filip Moller before earning a 6-1 triumph against Boston University's David Asenov and Adrian Quiros.
Arredondo and Machado followed with a pair of victories, defeating Siena's Emilio Zavala Salinas and Santiago Trujillo, 6-3, before taking down BU's Xiaoyao Dai and Andrew Andea by the same score.
Munoz and Cebrian earned a 6-4 win over Hamilton's Stuart Konezny and Martin Dimitrov before edging Katelevsky and Moller, 7-6.
Grech and Chastang rounded out the Skyhawks' doubles victories with a 6-4 triumph over Merrimack's Mats Hannastead and Martin Dimitrov before defeating Hamilton's Akshat Dhull and Alex Salib, 6-2.
Stonehill carried its momentum into Sunday's singles competition, recording seven victories across 11 matches.
Rafael Brown opened the Skyhawks' singles action with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Merrimack's Arjun Bhatia, while Arredondo battled past Siena's Matteo Castellazzi, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Jacob Borch-Nielsen added a straight-set triumph over Hamilton's Alex Salib, 6-3, 6-4, before Machado earned a victory over Hamilton's Martin Dimitrov, who retired with Machado leading 5-7, 1-0.
Benjamin Beaudry battled past Boston University's Xiaoyao Dai, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6, while Munoz secured a 6-3, 6-4 win over Siena's Mateja Stefanovic.
Borch-Nielsen rounded out his singles performance with a 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 victory over Babson's Saje Menon.
Stonehill also saw Bennaton fall to BU's Xiaoyao Dai, 6-0, 6-2, while Gutierrez dropped a hard-fought 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 decision to Hamilton's Charlie Sternberg. Cebrian fell to Babson's Sebastian Mendoza, 2-6, 6-4, 6-0, while Grech was defeated by Hamilton's Lleyton Mendieta, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
