Volleyball Falls to Saint Francis in Northeast Conference Battle

EASTON, Mass. (November 1, 2024) – The Stonehill College volleyball team hosted Saint Francis at Merkert Gymnasium in a Northeast Conference matchup Friday night, dropping the match in four sets, 3-1.

Highlights
  • Senior Emma Graves (Vestal, N.Y.) led Stonehill with 12.5 points on 12 kills while hitting at a career-best percentage of .579. Graves is second on the team in points this season, averaging 2.37 per set with a total of 182.5.
  • Sophomore Amaya Parnell (Portland, Ore.) recorded her third double-double of the season, notching a team-high 21 assists and 10 digs. Parnell also led the team with three aces.
  • Junior Mia Berardino (Rowley, Mass.) and freshman Paloma Gonzalez Jaramillo (Wylie, Texas) each had 12 points, 11 kills, and two block assists while Berardino also added six digs.
  • Sophomore Maddie Schamaun (Rockville, Md.) had 19 assists, five digs, and two service aces.
  • Saint Francis was led by Korrin Burns who scored 19.5 points for the Red Flash with 17 kills, a solo block, a block assist, an ace, and six digs.
  • As a team, Stonehill hit at an impressive .269 percentage, converting on 44 of their 108 attack attempts. Saint Francis was close behind in terms of percentage at .248 but had 48 kills on 117 attempts.
SET 1 | Stonehill opened the match on a 4-0 run, but the Red Flash rallied quickly, tying the set at 7-7. The two teams went back and forth, trading the lead four more times until Saint Francis used three straight scores to go up 14-12. The Red Flash held their two-point lead for the next few points, 17-15, but the Skyhawks would score six of the next seven points to build a 21-18 advantage. Stonehill led the rest of the set, going up 1-0 on the Red Flash with a 25-20 set win.
 
SET 2 | The second set had five lead changes, with neither team giving an inch, leading to seven ties as well. Stonehill was ahead late, 18-16, until Saint Francis used a 6-0 run to take a 22-18 lead. The Red Flash held strong for the remainder of the set, winning 25-21.
 
SET 3 | Saint Francis jumped out to a 5-3 lead, but Stonehill managed to flip the score thanks to three straight kills, including two from sophomore Georgia Murphy (Plano, Texas), to take a 7-5 lead. This ignited what would be an 8-1 run for Stonehill as the Skyhawks led 11-6. Saint Francis kept things, chipping away at the Stonehill lead to make the score 15-13. After that, the Red Flash scored the next eight points, building a 21-15 lead that proved to be insurmountable as Saint Francis took a 2-1 match lead, winning the third set, 25-17. Both teams were incredibly accurate with their attacks in the third, as Saint Francis had a .483 hit percentage while Stonehill hit at a .407 clip.
 
SET 4 | Six of the first seven points in the fourth set went to the Red Flash, but two kills from Graves and two Saint Francis errors brought Stonehill back within two, 8-6. The Red Flash responded with five straight scores and eight of the next nine to build a 16-7 advantage. An 8-2 run from the Skyhawks put them right back in the set, trailing by just three points, 18-15. Stonehill would keep it close, but the Red Flash closed out the match, taking the fourth set 25-22.
