Saint Francis Defeats Volleyball in Three Sets

EASTON, Mass. (November 2, 2024) – The Stonehill College volleyball team dropped a Northeast Conference match at Merkert Gymnasium Saturday afternoon, falling in three sets to Saint Francis.

Highlights
  • For the second consecutive game, senior Emma Graves (Vestal, N.Y.) led Stonehill in scoring, recording a team-high seven kills and three block assists, totaling 8.5 points. For the second game in a row, Graves's hit percentage was over .400, this time hitting a mark of .455.
  • Sophomore Sydney Javes (Frederick, Colo.) notched a career-high three points, going 3/3 on attack attempts to record a perfect 1.000 hit percentage.
  • Sophomore Maddie Schamaun (Rockville, Md.) led Stonehill with nine assists and also had two digs.
  • The Red Flash were led by Korri McClure who had 10 kills on 13 attacks (.615) and three block assists as well as an ace and a solo block to score 13.5 points.
SET 1 | There were zero ties and zero lead changes in the first set as Saint Francis led the whole way, winning the first set 25-16. Freshman Paloma Gonzalez Jaramillo (Wylie, Texas) led all scorers with four kills in the first set, while Graves tallied three for the Skyhawks.
 
SET 2 | The Red Flash started strong in the second set, jumping out to a 6-1 lead, eventually leading by as much as 12, 21-9. Saint Francis would win the second set, 25-14, as McClure led the Red Flash with five kills in the second frame. Saint Francis also had five aces and two blocks in the second.
 
SET 3 | Saint Francis scored the first four points of the third set that catapulted the Red Flash to an early 11-3 advantage. Javes subbed in and provided some instant offense for the Skyhawks, notching three kills, while Graves added three kills of her own to keep Stonehill in the match. The Red Flash lead was too much for the Skyhawks as Korrin Burns recorded five kills in the third set, and Drew Wallech had four to lead Saint Francis to a 25-16 win.

The Stonehill College volleyball team travels to Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Conn. next weekend, playing the Blue Devils at 6 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday, both at Detrick Gymnasium.
