Central Connecticut Downs Volleyball in Four Sets

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (November 8, 2024) – The Stonehill College volleyball team traveled to Detrick Gymnasium to take on Central Connecticut State University Friday night, dropping a Northeast Conference match in four sets.

Highlights
  • Senior Emma Graves (Vestal, N.Y.) recorded her third game of 12+ kills over her past six, notching a team-high of 12 on a .233 hit percentage. Graves also had five digs, a solo block, and an assist.
  • Senior Leah Michalowski (Holden, Mass.) had a career night, tallying nine kills on 16 attack attempts without an error for a .563 hit percentage, both career bests.
  • Sophomore Amaya Parnell (Portland, Ore.) led Stonehill with 17 assists while scoring three points on two service aces and a kill.
  • Lauren Milani scored a game-high 16.5 points to lead the Blue Devils in the win, also notching seven digs and three block assists.
SET 1 | Central Connecticut never trailed in the first set as Stonehill was able to tie the score on two different occasions, at 15 and 16, but the Blue Devils halted every Skyhawk run to maintain their advantage, winning the first set, 25-20. Michalowski led all scorers with five kills in the first frame
 
SET 2 | Stonehill took its first lead of the match with a service ace from sophomore Maddie Schamaun (Rockville, Md.) for the first score of the set, but CCSU scored the next four points to take a three-score lead, 4-1. Stonehill would tie the score at 7-7, but the Blue Devils responded with a 6-0 run. Central Connecticut went up by as much as 10, 20-10, until the Skyhawks cut the deficit in half, 23-18. The Blue Devils took a 2-0 match lead after scoring two of the final three points to win the set, 25-19.
 
SET 3 | CCSU jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but that would be the Blue Devils' largest lead until they went up 16-12 midway through the set, as the Skyhawks continued to keep it close. CCSU held its four-point lead late, 22-18. A kill from Michalowski sparked a 4-0 run for Stonehill as the Skyhawks tied it, 22-22, for the first time since the score was 2-2. Stonehill rattled off five kills from five different Skyhawks as senior Lindsey Peirson (Bedford, N.H.) landed the final blow to complete the comeback as Stonehill won the set, 27-25.
 
SET 4 | Central Connecticut took another early lead in the fourth set, scoring three of the first four points before extending its lead to five, 9-4. Stonehill scored the next three points, but the Blue Devils answered with a 5-1 run to take a 14-8 advantage. CCSU carried its momentum, leafing 19-12 until four unanswered from the Skyhawks brought them back within two points, 20-18. The Blue Devils closed out the match with five of the next seven to win the set, 25-20.
 
Up Next
Another NEC matchup between the Skyhawks and Blue Devils is slated for tomorrow at 1 p.m. as Stonehill and CCSU play one more at Detrick Gymnasium.
