MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (November 14, 2024) – The Stonehill College men's basketball team dropped its opening matchup of the Urban-Bennett Invitational powered by P3R to the host school, Robert Morris, 61-53, at the UMPC Events Center Thursday night.
LEADERS
- Sophomore Todd Brogna (Southborough, Mass.) led Stonehill in scoring and on the glass, recording 17 points and a season-high nine rebounds.
- Graduate student Amir Nesbitt (Newport News, Va.) had a team-high four assists while scoring four points.
- Robert Morris's Josh Omojafo led a trio of double-digit scorers for the Colonials with 15 points, while Amarion Dickerson had 10 points and seven blocks.
FIRST HALF
- Robert Morris began the game with a contested layup plus the foul but Stonehill responded as Brogna knocked down a pair of threes to give Stonehill a 6-3 lead.
- The Colonials went on an 11-1 run over the next four minutes to build a seven-point lead, 14-7, with just under 12 minutes to play in the half.
- A floater in the lane by Nesbitt, followed by a free throw and a mid-range jumper from sophomore Alex Bates IV (Charlotte, N.C.), ended the Colonials' run but the Skyhawks still trailed by six, 18-12.
- Junior Chas Stinson (Charlotte, N.C.) scored the next four Skyhawk points while Robert Morris made five free throws and a layup to increase its lead to nine, 25-16.
- Graduate student Josh Morgan (Brampton, Ontario) scored six straight points for the Skyhawks, and freshman Hermann Koffi (Quebec City, Quebec) knocked down a corner three with under 10 seconds to play in the half to trim the Colonials' lead to just four points going into the break, 29-25.
- Robert Morris made 14 of its 21 free throw attempts in the first half, while Stonehill only got to the line eight times, making three of its attempts.
SECOND HALF
- After Stonehill (9-25, 36%) and Robert Morris (7-24, 29.2%) struggled to shoot the ball in the first half, both teams started hot in the second half. The Colonials started 4-6 from the field and 7-8 from the line, while the Skyhawks opened the half going 4-8 from the field and 2-2 from long range with Robert Morris holding a 44-37 lead.
- Back-to-back threes from Brogna and Morgan made it a six-point deficit for the Skyhawks with 7:35 to play in the second half, 51-45, as both players netted their third three-pointers of the game.
- The Colonials' defense was stout over the next five minutes of play, holding Stonehill to one layup and a pair of free throws as they extended their lead to 12 points, 61-49, with 2:04 to play.
- Robert Morris would win the non-conference matchup, 63-51, in both teams' opening matchup of the Urban-Bennett Invitational powered by P3R.
NOTEWORTHY
- This was the first meeting between Robert Morris and Stonehill as well as the first Horizon League matchup for the Skyhawks.
- The Skyhawks have dropped 25 straight road games with the last road win coming on February 4, 2023, at Saint Francis Brooklyn.
- Brogna led the Skyhawks in scoring for the second time this season with Stonehill holding a 1-1 record in such games.
- After a 3-4 night from deep for Brogna, the sophomore forward is shooting 63.6% (7-11) from long range this season as he leads the Skyhawks with 14.0 points per game.
- Nesbitt has led the Skyhawks in assists in all four games this season, leading Stonehill with 4.0 per game.

- Stonehill will continue its trip to Moon Township, Pa. tomorrow, playing New Orleans at 4 p.m. in its second game of the Urban-Bennett Invitational Hosted by P3R at the UMPC Events Center.
