EASTON, Mass. (November 15, 2024) – The Stonehill College volleyball team dropped its penultimate match of the 2024 season, falling in three sets to FDU in a Northeast Conference contest at Merkert Gymnasium Friday night.
FDU 3, Stonehill 0 (21-25, 18-25, 15-25)
Highlights
- Junior Mia Berardino (Rowley, Mass.) led the Skyhawks with nine kills and 11.5 points as she had two aces and a block assist.
- Senior Emma Graves (Vestal, N.Y.) had six kills and a .333 hit percentage, while sophomore Abby Farrell (Reading, Mass.) recorded a game-high five service aces, a kill, and a block assist to score 6.5 points.
- Sophomores Amaya Parnell (Portland, Ore.) and Maddie Schamaun (Rockville, Md.) totaled 23 assists as Parnell had 12 and Schamaun had 11. Schamaun also led the team with five digs and Parnell had three of her own.
- FDU's Avery Bain was the match's top-scorer, totaling 12 kills on a .500 attack percentage to go along with five digs. The Knight's libero, Emily Van O'Linda, notched 19 digs on the defensive end with just one receiving error.
SET 1 | FDU started strong, leading 6-1 out the gate, but Stonehill responded with seven straight scores, five being aces from Farrell, to take an 8-6 lead. The rest of the set was back-and-forth, as there were six ties, but the Knights broke a 21-21 deadlock with four straight points, winning the set, 25-21. Farrell had five points on aces, while Graves' three kills led the Skyhawks on the offensive end in the opening set.
SET 2 | Stonehill took an early 6-5 lead with two kills coming from freshman
Paloma Gonzalez Jaramillo (Wylie, Texas) and a kill and an ace coming from Berardino, but FDU rattled off four consecutive scores to take a 9-6 advantage, a lead the Knights wouldn't give up for the rest of the set. Berardino had three more kills in the set, but it wasn't enough as FDU took a 2-0 match lead, winning 25-18.
SET 3 | The Knights went wire-to-wire in the third set, leading the entire way as an 11-3 start sparked a dominant final stretch. FDU's lead never fell below eight points for the rest of the frame as the Knights closed out the match with a 25-15 set win.
