How It Happened
After Lindenwood opened the game outshooting Stonehill 7-1 over the first six minutes of play, sophomore forward
Brady Hunter would go on the attack and generate the Skyhawks first grade-A scoring chance of the contest. At the 6:31 mark, Hunter forced a Lions offensive zone turnover and skated up the ice on a solo breakaway. However, Bartoszkiewicz would hold his position in net and stifle the sophomore forward's scoring opportunity, keeping the game scoreless early in the opening frame.
Following Hunter's breakaway, the two sides would trade shot attempts back and forth, playing to a scoreless matchup until the final four minutes of the first period, where Lindenwood would jump out to the first lead of the game. Within 60 seconds of one another, at the 16:13 and 17:13 marks of the period, Hipkin and Southgate would light the lamp on their first and second goals of the season, respectively, giving the Lions a two-goal lead heading into the first intermission.
Coming out of the break, Lindenwood would continue its late momentum from the first period, tacking two goals on the board in the middle frame to take a 4-0 advantage into the third and final frame of regulation. At the 11:11 mark of the second period, Zielke lit the lamp on his fourth goal of the season after redirecting a shot off the blue line from freshman defender
Noah Houle past Androlewicz and into the back of the net.
With less than 30 seconds to play in the second period, Borshyov would retrieve a cross-ice pass from Yakesh and rifle a shot through a screen and into the back of the cage for his second goal of the year, putting the Lions up by four heading into the break.
Lindenwood capped off the scoring and sealed the 5-0 shutout victory over Stonehill at the 18:17 mark of the third period when Gagnon scored his team-leading sixth goal of the campaign on a breakaway.
