How It Happened
Clarkson wasted little time jumping out to a commanding lead. After the first 20 minutes of action, the Golden Knights held a commanding 4-0 advantage over the Skyhawks. Within one minute of each other at the 5:24 and 5:52 marks, respectively, sophomore
Talon Sigurdson and Tate Taylor would open the scoring for Clarkson.
Following Taylor's first career goal, Pakulak would join his classmate, lighting the lamp on the first of his collegiate career at the 9:16 mark of the opening frame. Dahm capped off the scoring for the Golden Knights in the first period at the 14:32 mark with his third of the season off an assist by junior
Trey Taylor.
Midway through the second period, Schreifels would get the Skyhawks on the board, rifling a one-timer shot inside the post and into the back of the cage for his second goal of the season off assists from Campione and Schwenninger. However, Clarkson would regain its four-goal lead less than 90 seconds later when Kaelan Taylor netted his first of the season for the Golden Knights.
At the 12:13 mark of the middle frame, Melady would dish a pass up the ice to Aben, who deked past his defender and sent a shot top shelf past Langenegger for his first collegiate goal. In the waning minutes of the second, Grainda would rifle into the top right corner of the Golden Knights net, cutting the Skyhawks deficit to two heading into the third and final frame of regulation.
Clarkson would partially regain its first-period momentum, lighting the lamp on its sixth goal off the stick of Pakulak for his second goal of the game and second of his collegiate career at the 4:05 mark of the third. Despite cutting the deficit to 5-3 in the second period, the Golden Knights lead proved too much to overcome for the Skyhawks, as Stonehill eventually fell by a final score of 6-3.
