NORTH ANOVER, Mass. (May 17, 2024) – The Stonehill College baseball team dropped game two of its three-game Northeast Conference (NEC) series, 10-8, to Merrimack College Friday afternoon in North Andover, Massachusetts. With the loss, the Skyhawks fall to 18-28 overall and 13-16 in conference play, while the Warriors improve to 29-24 overall and 21-11 against conference opponents.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Following back-to-back singles from Parks and Kiely, two straight walks to Ciulla-Hall and Thorbahn would bring home Stonehill's first run of the game. With the bases still loaded and one out in the top of the first, junior Taylor Gaspar would be hit by a pitch, allowing Kiely to waltz home from third and plate the Skyhawk's second run. Senior shortstop Jack Marshall capped off Stonehill's three-run frame in the first, lifting a sacrifice fly out to right field to score Ciulla-Hall and give the Skyhawks an early 3-0 lead.
Merrimack would cut into its deficit in the bottom of the second with a two-out rally. After sophomore Christian Scanlon drew a walk and advanced to third on a double down the rightfield line off the bat of graduate student Cavan Brady, freshman Jacob Albert would step up to the plate and lace a two-run double into the left centerfield gap.
With two straight scoreless innings pitched by Haas in the books, Ciulla-Hall and Thorbahn would reward their starter's efforts on the hill with back-to-back solo blasts for the second consecutive game, extending the Skyhawks lead to 5-2 midway through the Friday afternoon matchup.
A wild pitch thrown with two outs and a runner on third by Haas in the seventh resulted in Brady coming across to score, cutting the deficit to 5-3. In the bottom of the eighth, after a leadoff single by sophomore Frankie Ferrentino, Dolbashia would launch his 17th homerun of the season to level the game at five aside for Merrimack. However, after Dolbashia's two-run shot, the Warriors would grab their first lead at 10-5, plating five additional runs fueled by a three-run homerun off the bat of Goode.
Despite Stonehill's valiant effort to mount a comeback in the ninth, plating three runs off one swing of the bat by Lidsky the Merrimack lead proved too much to overcome, as the Skyhawks eventually fell by a final score of 10-8.
