Women’s Tennis Defeats Endicott 7-0 in Season Opener

First 7-0 match win for Skyhawks since April 2023

BEVERLY, Mass. (September 6, 2024) – The Stonehill College women's tennis opened its 2024-25 season with a 7-0 win at Endicott College Friday afternoon.
 
Highlights
  • Junior captain Anneliese Beltran (Spring, Texas) and sophomore Julie Holte (Oslo, Norway) picked up where they left off in doubles last season, winning their first matchup of the season, 6-1, after winning 12 matches as a duo last season.
  • The Skyhawks would sweep all three doubles matches and all six singles matches to win 7-0 for the first time since April 2, 2023 at home against Bentley.
  • Freshman Arya Chabria (Columbus, Ohio) made her collegiate debut, winning both her doubles and singles matches.
How It Happened
  • Beltran and Holte defeated Lejla Guster and Emily Leclerc, 6-1, in the No. 1 doubles position after being tied for second in the Northeast Conference with 12 wins as a pair last season.
  • Junior Camila Zuluaga Rodriguez (Medellin, Colombia) and Chabria won in the No. 2 slot, 6-3, over Olivia Martinelli and Ripley Uyeda for the Gulls.
  • Sophomore Alice Brito do Rio (Angra do Heroismo, Portugal) and sophomore Madison Warren (Frederick, Md.) earned a 6-1 victory over Endicott's Caroline Sutliffe and Samantha Hartman in the third doubles position as the Skyhawks took a 1-0 lead in the match overall.
  • Holte held down the first singles court with 6-4 and 6-0 set wins to defeat Guster.
  • After picking up three singles wins out of the No. 2 position last year, Warren came out on top in her singles debut with a sweep, 6-0, 6-2 against Martinelli.
  • Beltran won in the No. 3 spot with 6-1 and 6-2 set victories over Leclerc.
  • Chabria made her collegiate singles debut in the fifth position, taking down Sutliffe, 6-2, 6-4.
  • Zuluaga Rodriguez completed the 7-0 match victory for the Skyhawks by defeating Amber Woods, 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 6 spot.
  • Freshman Piper Remillard (Durham, Conn.) didn't record an official match but won an exhibition, 8-2, in a pro set over Milana Montini.
