How it Happened
Just six minutes into the weekend finale, Stonehill found the back of the net to take the first lead of the contest. After a scramble in front of the crease, Geist and Walkom applied pressure on Greene in net, helping to force the puck over the goal line. The goal marked Geist's fifth of the season and her third point of the weekend.
With Geist putting the Skyhawks ahead at the 5:59 mark of the opening frame, both teams exchanged momentum, each registering nine shots on goal during the first 20 minutes of action.
In the second period, Caron and the Skyhawks' penalty kill unit were called into action multiple times, standing firm in their defensive zone. Despite facing five power-play opportunities and 15 shots on goal, they kept Sacred Heart off the board and maintained a one-goal lead heading into the third period.
After the Pioneers' power play expired to start the third, Stonehill doubled its lead. Whynot sent a shot toward the slot, where Walkom corralled the puck and dished it to a wide-open Kenmore, who fired her second goal of the season into the net. The goal gave the Skyhawks a 2-0 lead with just under 15 minutes remaining in regulation.
As the game entered the final stages, with Stonehill still holding a two-goal advantage at the 15:53 mark, junior co-captain
Sydney Russell delivered a defensive showcase. Russell recorded two key takeaways and blocked shots to neutralize Sacred Heart's offensive threat, preventing any chance of a comeback.
In the final minute, Wise sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 19:06, capping off the scoring and rewarding Caron's efforts in net. The goal helped secure a 3-0 shutout and a two-game weekend sweep over Sacred Heart, the current top seed in the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) standings.
