Men’s Track and Field Opens Competition at the River Hawk Invitational in Boston

BOSTON, Mass. (January 24, 2025) - The Stonehill College men's track and field team opened competition at the River Hawk Invitational hosted by UMass Lowell at the TRACK at New Balance Friday morning before the women compete tomorrow.
 
FIELD EVENTS
  • Graduate student Cody DeAngelo (Old Saybrook, Conn.) had his best performance in the pole vault of the winter, placing eighth with a vault of 4.43m (14' 6.25"). DeAngelo now ranks third in the Northeast Conference in the event, moving up one spot from fourth.
  • Sophomore Drew Pierson (Ellsworth, Maine) came in a tie for 15th in the high jump as he reached a height of 1.91m (6' 3.25"), matching the best indoor mark of his career.
  • Sophomore Joseph Chesney (Cumberland, R.I.) placed 13th to lead the Skyhawks in the shot put with a toss of 14.05m (46' 1.25").
  • Classmate Christopher Gill (Boston, Mass.) finished one spot behind Chesney, placing 14th with a throw of 13.98m (45' 10.5").
TRACK EVENTS
  • The 60-meter hurdles finals were narrowly missed by sophomore Will Tinkham (Stoughton, Mass), who placed 10th in the preliminary race with a time of 8.46 seconds. Tinkham also set a new personal record in the 200-meter dash, placing 14th in the open competition at 22.34 seconds.
  • Senior Shea Drugan (Westfield, Mass.) matched his personal record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.02 seconds, placing 14th in the prelims.
  • Drugan also missed his PR in the 200-meter dash by three-hundredths of a second, placing 12th with a time of 21.84 seconds.
  • In the open race for the 200m dash, freshman Miles Burr (Trenton, Maine) placed third, crossing the finish line in 21.93 seconds, his best time in the event.
  • In the mile race, freshman Aiden Ruiz (Northborough, Mass.) set a new PR, clocking in at 4:33.12, more than six seconds faster than the PR he set last weekend in the mile race at URI.
  • Competing in his first collegiate 400-meter dash was freshman Matthew Anderson (Webster, Mass.) who placed 15th in the open portion of the event with a time of 52.13 seconds.
  • Classmate Marcus McCoy (Linden, N.J.) also competed in the 400m open, placing 20th with a PR of 52.53 seconds.
  • Senior Louis Warner (Kinderhook, N.Y.) set the top mark in the NEC as he crossed the finish line in 1:05.51 in the 500-meter race, placing seventh out of 32 runners.
  • Freshman Nathan Binda (Auburn, N.H.) recorded the best 800-meter run time of his young career, finishing the race in 1:58.17.
  • In the 300-meter race, two Skyhawks finished back-to-back as sophomore Nicholas Davies (Auckland, New Zealand) and senior Jace Hollenbach (Topsham, Maine) placed 16th and 17th. Davies finished at 8:36.13 to place 16th, while Hollenbach placed 17th at 8:37.4.
  • Freshman Ethan Fadden (Bellingham, Mass.) clocked in at 8:48.09 to set a new PR in the 3000m run.
  • In the afternoon's final event, sophomore Dylan Brilliant (Plymouth, Mass.) placed third in the 5000-meter run, recording the second-best time of his career in the event and the second-best time in the NEC this indoor season at 14:56.58.
  • Graduate student Patrick Garratt (Westwood, Mass.) crossed the finish line at 14:57.99 in the 5000m run, placing fourth and recording the third-best time in the conference this season.
  • Freshman Kyle Kwiatek (Lynn, Mass.) notched a 10th place finish in his first career 5000m run appearance, recording a time of 15:13.44. Classmate Jacob Tobin (Natick, Mass.) came in 16th place, finishing at 15:33.62 as this was also his first time competing in the indoor 5000m run.
