How It Happened
After a back-and-forth start, with both teams registering three attempts apiece in the first five minutes, Stonehill drew its first penalty at the 6:39 mark of the opening frame, earning a power-play opportunity. However, Brown's penalty kill unit, along with goaltender Zacher, stood strong, successfully neutralizing the Skyhawks' early advantage and keeping the game scoreless midway through the first period.
At 11:22, Shostak took advantage of a rebound off the stick of Androlewicz to score his third goal of the season, giving Brown the first lead of the game.
With just over two minutes remaining in the first period, Shostak set up Zadvernyuk at the near-side faceoff dot, where he fired a shot past Androlewicz to double Brown's lead. The Bears would head into the first intermission with a 2-0 advantage.
Early in the second period, while on the power play, junior
Teddy Lagerbäck and senior
Devlin O'Brien came close to cutting Stonehill's deficit in half, each with strong scoring opportunities in the slot.
At 10:58 of the second, Brown extended its lead when St. Louis, after retrieving an up-ice pass from sophomore
Max Scott, fired a shot over the outstretched glove of Androlewicz for his fourth goal of the season. With less than two minutes remaining in the frame, Stonehill answered while on the power play. Schreifels passed down the boards to Galante, who exchanged feeds before sending a sharp-angled shot into the net, cutting the gap to 3-1 as the teams entered the third period.
Brown quickly regained its three-goal advantage when Clark scored just 25 seconds into the final frame on a backhanded shot, marking his fourth goal of the season. After Brown's early goal, both teams traded shot attempts until the 10:18 mark, when Ireland's shot glanced off the post, narrowly missing a goal that would have brought Stonehill within two.
In the final 90 seconds of regulation, Orr sent a shot from the point that was redirected into the net by Ireland, who scored his fourth goal of the season, bringing the score to 4-2. However, Brown sealed the victory with a final goal in the last 10 seconds of the game, securing a 5-2 win over Stonehill.
