Brogna’s Big Night Fuels Skyhawks to NEC Win Over Wagner

Brogna tallies career-high 28 points as Skyhawks improve to 8-2 at Merkert Gym on the season

EASTON, Mass. (January 30, 2025) – Sophomore Todd Brogna (Southborough, Mass.) scored a career-high 28 points in a 73-61 win for the Stonehill College men's basketball team (12-11, 4-4 NEC) over Wagner College (11-10, 3-5 NEC) at Merkert Gymnasium Thursday night.

LEADERS
  • Brogna shot 9-12 from the field, 3-5 from deep, and 7-7 from the free throw line en route to a career-high 28 points. He also recorded six rebounds, three assists, and one steal in the win.
  • Sophomore Louie Semona (Cincinnati, Ohio) corralled a team-high eight rebounds, matching his career-best mark while scoring 14 points.
  • Zaire Williams led the Seahawks with 12 points, three assists, one block, and one steal.
FIRST HALF
  • Wagner jumped out to a 7-0 lead and increased its lead to nine with strong defensive play, leading 23-14 with five minutes to go in the first half.
  • Three-pointers from graduate student Amir Nesbitt (Newport News, Va.) and Brogna on back-to-back possessions made it a one-point game as the Skyhawks trailed by three, 23-20.
  • Stonehill trailed Wagner, 28-25, going into the break as Brogna led all scorers with 10 points while Wagner's Keyontae Lewis led the Seahawks with six points.
SECOND HALF
  • The Skyhawks started the second half making six of their first eight shot attempts, with Brogna and Semona each chipping in five points to give Stonehill a five-point advantage, 41-36.
  • A tough finish at the rim from junior Chas Stinson (Charlotte, N.C.) gave the Skyhawks their largest lead of the game at 47-39 over halfway through the final 20 minutes of action.
  • Stonehill led the rest of the way, cruising to a 12-point win over Wagner, 73-61. The Skyhawks outscored the Seahawks 48-33 in the second half, led by Brogna's 18 points.
  • Stonehill also made all 22 of its free throw attempts in the second half to seal the NEC win.
NOTEWORTHY
  • Stonehill improves to 4-3 all-time against Wagner, having won all three games against the Seahawks at Merkert Gym.
  • This was Semona's seventh consecutive start and his 11th straight game scoring in double figures. Semona is now averaging 15.4ppg over the last 14 games as he's tallied 10+ in 13 of those contests.
  • Stonehill improves to 8-2 at Merkert Gym this season, as this was the Skyhawks' second win at home in NEC play after going 6-0 in Easton during their non-conference slate.
  • Stonehill shot 100% from the free throw line for the first time this season (22-22). The Skyhawks last went 100% (8-8) against UMass Lowell last season and at Fordham (11-11) in 2022.
