How It Happened
Stonehill wasted little time taking an early lead, as just 2:29 into the contest, Lagerbäck netted his second goal of the season to give the Skyhawks a 1-0 advantage. After Gaudette unleashed a one-timed slapshot that was turned away by Quinnipiac goaltender Marinov's left pad, Lagerbäck was in position to deflect the puck off the back of the Bobcat netminder, sending it over the goal line for the game's first goal.
In the final minute of the opening period, Orr
nearly doubled Stonehill's lead with a powerful slapshot off a deflected pass from defensive partner
Charlie Banquier, but his attempt ricocheted off the Quinnipiac post.
The Bobcats responded strongly out of the first intermission, outshooting Stonehill 11-0 in the first four minutes of the second period. Quinnipiac was awarded two power-play opportunities early in the frame and capitalized on both. Treloar found the back of the net with a short-side goal at 4:11 for his ninth of the season, while Cerbone added a power-play tally of his own at the 8:20 mark, giving Quinnipiac a 2-1 lead during a five-minute skater advantage.
In the final minute of the second period, the Skyhawks had a golden opportunity to tie the game when first-year center
Zach Nicolas found himself alone in front of the Bobcats' net. However, after the missed chance at one end of the ice, Quinnipiac quickly transitioned to a two-on-one break, with Pennington converting to extend the Bobcats' lead to 3-1 heading into the break.
Quinnipiac carried its momentum into the third period, adding three more goals in the final 20 minutes while shutting out the Skyhawks, ultimately securing a commanding 6-1 victory.
