Skyhawks Outshoot No. 14 UMass in Hard-Fought 4-1 Defeat

BOSTON, Mass. (October 10, 2025) – The Stonehill College men's hockey team fell to nationally ranked No. 14 UMass, 4-1, at Warrior Ice Arena on Friday night. With the loss, the Skyhawks dropped to 0-3 to open the season, while the Minutemen improved to 3-0-0 on the year.

Highlights
  • Stonehill outshot UMass, 40-27, while the Minutemen narrowly edged out the Skyhawks in faceoffs, 33-32.
  • Senior Teddy Lagerbäck lit the lamp on his first goal of the season and 13th of his collegiate career.
  • Sophomore Billy Renfrew dished out his team-leading fourth assist of the campaign.
  • Graduate goaltender Connor Androlewicz tallied a season-high 23 saves in between the pipes for the Skyhawks.
  • Václav Nestrašil paved the way for UMass offensively, scoring three of their four goals on the night.
  • Mikey DeAngelo, Daniel Jencko, and Jack Musa also had multi-point outings for the Minutemen.
  • Michael Hrabel picked up the win in net after stopping 39 of his 40 shots faced in net for UMass.

How It Happened
Stonehill came out strong, outshooting UMass 20-7 over the first 16 minutes of action. However, the Minutemen struck first at the 17:17 mark of the opening frame, capitalizing on a power play as Nestrašil netted the first of his three goals on the night.

The Skyhawks carried momentum into the second period after drawing a penalty late in the first. Although UMass successfully killed off the early power play, Stonehill continued to apply pressure. Renfrew forced a turnover in the offensive zone and found a wide-open Lagerbäck in front, who buried a shot past Hrabel just 2:10 into the period to even the score at 1-1.

UMass responded with three unanswered goals — two more from Nestrašil and one from DeAngelo — to build a commanding 4-1 advantage heading into the final frame. Despite outshooting the Minutemen once again in the third period, Stonehill couldn't cut into the deficit, falling 4-1 to the No. 14 nationally ranked UMass Minutemen.
