HOW IT HAPPENED
The Skyhawks found themselves down early in the first set, trailing by as many as four to start match, but came alive late. Freshman Samantha Loyd and sophomore
Annabelle Svenson turned the set around stuffing a kill attempt by the Knights to pull the Skyhawks to within one, 21-20, before senior
Mia Berardino tied the match. There was no looking back as the Skyhawks hung on to take the 1-0 match lead.
FDU answered and even the match at 1-1 following a victory in the second set. When the third set began the Skyhawks jumped out to an early lead and looked to be taking back the match's momentum, hitting over .300 throughout the majority of the set. But the Knights grinded their way back and won the set, 25-23, to take the 2-1 match lead.
Stonehill put up a fight in the fourth set looking to extend the contest to a decisive game five behind an outstanding performance from freshman
Sam Loyd. Posting .455 attack percentage in the fourth set, Loyd was flawless from the floor with five kills on 11 attempts, but it was not enough as the Knights held on for the 25-20 win.
