EASTON, Mass. – Senior
Mia Berardino guided Stonehill volleyball to a five-set, 3-2, victory over Le Moyne College notching 23 kills on Friday evening. Berardino eclipsed the program's Division I kill record, which she set when she tallied 21 against Mercyhurst last October.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- Senior Mia Berardino posted a .405 attack percentage with 23 kills on 42 attempts and just six errors.
- Freshman Cat Detweiler registered a career single-game best seven total blocks – five block assists and two solo blocks.
- Freshman Emaline Ealey notched 13 kills with a .276 attack percentage.
- Freshman Kendra Sawyer paced the offense with 42 assists.
- The Skyhawks posted a .308 and .421 attack percentage in the fourth and fifth sets, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Skyhawks set the tone of the match taking the first set from the Dolphins, 25-16. After junior
Abby Farrell and freshman Sawyer combined for seventh block of the set, sophomore
Gabi Polishuk capped off the win an ace to put Stonehill in front.
Le Moyne answered an evened the match at 1-1, holding off a late comeback by the Skyhawks rally in the second set. Freshman
Cat Detweiler was a force late in the set with a pair of kills and a block assist, but it was not enough to power past the Dolphins.
The Dolphins managed to keep their momentum rolling into the third set, escaping with at 25-21 win to take the 2-1 match advantage. But the Skyhawks responded and forced a fifth set hitting .308 as a team to power past the Dolphins, 25-15.
Stonehill carried the momentum it built into the fifth set building a 6-3 lead. While Le Moyne mounted a valiant comeback, the Skyhawks did not waver, hitting .421 as a team.
