EASTON, Mass. – The Stonehill women's volleyball team overcame a 0-2 deficit to defeat Le Moyne, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- Senior Mia Berardino registered a double-double notching 22 kills with 11 digs over five sets.
- Freshman Kendra Sawyer paced the offense with 43 assists.
- Freshman Suzie Ponce anchored the back row with 15 digs.
- Freshman Cat Detweiler was flawless from the flor notching seven kills on 18 attempts for a .389 attack percentage.
- Freshmen Sam Loyd and Emaline Ealey rounded out the Skyhawks in double figure kills with 14 and 10, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After dropping the first two sets against the Dolphins, the Skyhawks showed their resilience and kept the match alive with a 25-21 win in the third set. Junior
Abby Farrell was nearly perfect form the floor in the third set, tallying four kills on five attempts.
They carried that momentum into the fourth set. Senior Berardino guided a Skyhawk offense that got everyone involved with four kills. Freshman Cat Detweiller came up big offensively three kills in addition to a block assist while, Farrell also notched three kills to propel Stonehill into the fifth set.
In a back-and-forth fifth set, Berardino registered a kill to take a 11-10 and force the Dolphins to call their first time out. But the break did little to quell the Skyhawk offense as they went on a 5-1 run to take the fifth set, 15-11.
