How It Happened
Stonehill opened the scoring at the 5:48 mark of the first period when Walkom forced a turnover and found Geist, who one-timed a shot past Czukoski to give the Skyhawks the early lead. Saint Anselm responded quickly, converting on a power play as Waldo netted her first collegiate goal to even the score.
The Hawks then grabbed their first lead of the contest at 16:08 of the opening frame when Schneiderhan capitalized on a shorthanded breakaway, picking the top-right corner for her third goal of the season and first of the night.
Both teams battled evenly through the second period, with Saint Anselm holding a narrow 17-13 edge in shots. The Skyhawks penalty kill stood tall, successfully fending off two Saint Anselm power plays. Late in the frame, Stone came up clutch, making a series of key saves to keep Stonehill within one heading into the final period.
Despite outshooting Saint Anselm 13-7 in the third — including a near equalizer from Russell that rang off the post — the Skyhawks were unable to break through. Schneiderhan sealed the win for the Hawks with an empty-net goal in the closing minute to secure the 3-1 final.
