How it Happened
Throughout the opening 45 minutes of action, Stonehill and Howard battled evenly in the middle third of the pitch, with the Skyhawks holding a slight 6-5 edge in shots. Both goalkeepers, Sougaris and Knox, along with their respective back lines, stood tall to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime.
Howard nearly broke the deadlock in the 58th minute when Rutland raced down the near side and fired a right-footed shot off the crossbar. Moments later, following their third corner kick of the afternoon,
Lily Roslonek and
Martha Lord each saw point-blank scoring opportunities denied by the Bison defense, keeping the match even at 0-0.
In the 64th minute, Cassidy came close to putting Stonehill in front, sending a shot from inside the 18-yard box just over the crossbar.
Down the stretch, both sides continued to trade possession and scoring chances. Despite earning a late corner in the final five minutes, the Skyhawks were unable to find the go-ahead goal, as the two teams settled for a scoreless draw in Sunday's conference matchup.
