Anselmo Nets Two as Women's Soccer Secures Comeback, 3-2, Victory at Mercyhurst

ERIE, Pa. (October 19, 2025) – Led offensively by senior Hannah Anselmo, who registered her fifth multi-goal performance of the season, the Stonehill College women's soccer team rallied for a 3-2 comeback victory over Mercyhurst on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Skyhawks improved to 4-8-3 overall and 4-3-1 in conference play, while the Lakers fell to 1-12-3 overall and 1-5-2 in league action.

Highlights
  • Anselmo registered her fifth multi-goal game of the season—and second in a row—bringing her season total to 13 goals, the most by a Skyhawk in a single campaign since Kirstie St. Martin's 15 in 2010.
  • Sophomore Martha Lord netted her second career game-winning goal, while classmate Anya Zub recorded her first collegiate assist.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Allie Sougaris earned her fourth win of the season and raised her single-season career-high save total to 54.
  • Madison Sievering and Anamari Bosnjak each scored their second goals of the season for Mercyhurst.
  • Rylee Kumer finished with 10 saves in goal for the Lakers.
How it Happened
Following a back-and-forth start to the conference matchup, Mercyhurst opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Maddi Cowburn connected with Sievering for her second goal of the season. Less than 15 minutes later, the Skyhawks' leading scorer Anselmo pulled Stonehill even with her 12th goal of the year and first of two on the afternoon.

However, the Lakers quickly regained the advantage just over two minutes later, as Fiona Fraser set up Bosnjak for her second tally of the season, sending Mercyhurst into halftime with a 2-1 edge.

After a quiet start to the second half that saw much of the action concentrated in the midfield, Stonehill began to turn up the pressure. The Skyhawks generated a trio of corner kicks in quick succession and were finally rewarded in the 71st minute, when Anselmo weaved past defenders and buried a left-footed strike past a diving Kumer to bring the match level at 2-2.

Riding that momentum, Stonehill continued to push forward. In the 84th minute, with the game still deadlocked, Lord unleashed a shot from 35 yards out that sailed over the outstretched glove of Kumer, giving the Skyhawks their first lead of the contest with just over six minutes remaining.

From there, Stonehill controlled possession and stifled any late comeback attempt by Mercyhurst, securing the 3-2 comeback victory to close out the road contest in Erie.
