How it Happened
After a back-and-forth start to the conference matchup, sophomore
Martha Lord nearly put Stonehill ahead early, redirecting a shot off a corner kick just over the crossbar at the 7:42 mark. The Skyhawks broke the scoreless tie in the 19th minute when Lomuscio found Rice in front of the net, who chipped a shot past Ford for her first collegiate goal.
Just over eight minutes later, CCSU answered back as Radoncic headed home a corner kick from Riley Powers into the near corner of the Skyhawks' net, knotting the score at 1-1.
In the final seconds of the first half, senior
Hannah Anselmo nearly restored Stonehill's lead, firing a shot off the crossbar as time expired.
Coming out of the halftime break, both sides settled into a defensive battle. In the 60th minute, CCSU earned three consecutive corner kicks, but Sougaris and the Skyhawks' back line stood tall to keep the game level.
Stonehill reclaimed the lead in the 70th minute when Lomuscio delivered an out-swinging corner into the box, where Brown rose above the defense to head it home for her first collegiate tally, putting the Skyhawks up 2-1.
However, the Blue Devils found an equalizer in the 87th minute when Kayla Ward sent a cross into the area that found Dias de Souza, who buried a shot past a diving Sougaris for her first goal of the season. Despite a pair of late set-piece opportunities for Stonehill, the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
