EASTON, Mass. – The Stonehill men's soccer team took a break from NEC action hosting the Harvard Crimson on Wednesday evening. After the Skyhawks defeated the Crimson on their home turf in Cambridge, the Harvard returned the favor escaping with the 4-2 win at W.B. Mason Stadium.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- Senior Shane Fonseca scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season less than two minutes into the game.
- Senior Owen Burke notched his third goal of the season in the 58th minute to cut the deficit to within one.
- The Skyhawks out shot the Crimson 19-9, including nine on target.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Skyhawks shot out of the gate, jumping in front two minutes in the contest. Sophomore
Nate Monteiro connected with senior
Shane Fonseca in front of the net to give Stonehill the 1-0 lead.
It was a short-lived as Harvard scored the equalizer four minutes later then went ahead in the 13
th minute. The Crimson would take a 3-1 lead into the break, but it did not stop the Skyhawks from fighting back.
Stonehill showed resilience and cut the deficit to one early in the second half. After earning a free kick, senior
Owen Burke buried his third goal of the season from the top of the 18-yard-box. However, the Crimson added an insurance goal in the 75
th minute to pull themselves ahead.
