LORETTO, Pa. – The Stonehill women's volleyball team fell to Saint Francis University in five sets, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon.
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- Senior Mia Berardino recorded her fifth double-double of the season tallying 13 kills and 11 digs.
- Freshman Sam Loyd led the Skyhawks with 14 kills.
- Freshman Kendra Sawyer paced the offense with 37 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Skyhawks controlled the match early on, taking a 2-0 match advantage after winning the first and second sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-21, respectively. Senior
Mia Berardino was flawless in the first set, registering a .625 attack percentage with five kills on eight attempts.
Stonehill did not let entering the second set. Freshman
Sam Loyd came on strong hitting .300 with notching four kills on 10 attempts to guide the Skyhawks to the 25-21 win and take a commanding lead in the match.
However, the Red Flashes were not going away quietly as they stayed alive, forcing a fourth set edging out the Skyhawks, 25-22. Saint Francis kept the pressure and evened the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set, before taking the fifth and final set by a score of 15-10.
