KINGSTON, R.I. (Nov. 11, 2025) – The Stonehill men's basketball team fell to the University of Rhode Island, 80-57, in their first meeting since 2006 on Tuesday evening.'
STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore Hermann Koffi led the offense with 16 points, shooting 4-of-9 from beyond the arc.
- Graduate student Raymond Espinal-Guzman pulled down nine rebounds and netted eight points in his return to his home state.
- Senior Rex Sunderland registered three steal on the defensive end, while offensively dishing out four assists and dropping seven points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Skyhawks had energy early after a second chance dunk by junior
Ridvan Tutic gave Stonehill a 3-2 lead. It was a tight contest until the second media time of the first half with URI leading by one. But coming out of the break, the Rams went on a 12-0 run to gain momentum over to their side.
Stonehill continued to hang around and appeared to be making a comeback at the start of the second half. Senior
Rex Sunderland took advantage of carelessness on the Rams offense went coast-to-coast, connecting with
Hermann Koffi for the fast break layup.
Moments before the third media time of the second half, Sunderland flipped the ball to senior
William Batchelder for a deep three to close the deficit. But they were unable to cool off a Rams offense that was shooting over 48% from the floor.
