HOW IT HAPPENED
The Skyhawks came out of the gate firing, taking a quick 5-0 lead, thanks to graduate student
Raymond Espinal-Guzman. Espinal Guzman was lights out for the Skyhawks scoring their first 13 points of the game to lead 13-11 at the second media time out of the game. It was a tight barn-burner throughout the first half with Fairfield taking a slim 30-27 lead into the locker room at the half.
When the teams emerged at the start of the second half, the Stags built themselves at 10-point, 57-47, lead. But the Skyhawks were resilient and battled their way back. Sophomore
Hermann Koffi caught fire offensively, knocking down a pair of threes, while senior
Chas Stinson was the spark Stonehill needed.
Registering 11 of his 13 points in the second half, Stinson came up with an enormous steal in the back court and scored with 21 seconds to tie the game at 65 and force overtime.
The Skyhawks took the lead in overtime following a pair of free throws by senior
Rex Sunderland and jumper by Espinal-Guzman. But the Stags answered with a 5-0 run to take a 71-69 lead and held off a late offensive push by the Skyhawks to earn their second win.
