Second Half Charge By Loyola Maryland Stifles Men's Basketball on Day Two of Mahoney Classic

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (Nov. 15, 2025) – The Stonehill men's basketball team fell to Loyola Maryland, 74-63, on the second day of the Mahoney Classic, Saturday afternoon.

STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Skyhawks shot 53% from the field in the first half.
  • Sophomore Hermann Koffi registered 20-plus points for the second time this season, finishing the day with 21 points.
  • Graduate student Raymond Espinal-Guzman added 10 points and seven rebounds, while senior Rex Sunderland recorded eight points and serving four assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing for much of the first half, the Skyhawks swung momentum over to their bench with a 6-0 run. Senior Rex Sunderland found a wide open Pearse McGuinn under the basket for an easy two points.

While the Greyhounds briefly re-gained the lead the flow of the game favored the Skyhawks. Sophomore Hermann Koffi battled for lay-up before McGuinn knocked down a pair of free throws to take a one-point, 38-37 at the break.

Loyola Maryland grabbed the lead back at the beginning of the second half. The Skyhawks continued to be a thorn in the side of the Greyhounds. After the Greyhounds extended their lead to seven with six and a half minutes remaining, the Skyhawks began to mount a charge, cutting the deficit to one-possession.

However, the Greyhounds took advantage of a late second half scoring drought by the Skyhawks to increase their lead to nine points to earn their second win of the season.
