Skyhawks Rally Twice but Fall in Overtime to Franklin Pierce

BOSTON, Mass. (November 14, 2025) – The Stonehill College women's hockey team fell in a back-and-forth battle to NEWHA rival Franklin Pierce, 5–4 in overtime, Friday night at Warrior Ice Arena. With the result, the Skyhawks dropped to 5-5-1 overall and 5-3-1 in conference play, while the Ravens improved to 6-7-0 overall and 5-4-0 against NEWHA opponents.

  • Senior Sydney Russell paced the Skyhawks offensively with three points on the night, recording two goals and one assist.

  • Senior Maddi Achtyl netted her team-best eighth goal of the year, and classmate Mia Kenmore recorded her first of the season.
  • Senior netminder Eve Stone turned aside 34 shots in goal for Stonehill.

How It Happened
Franklin Pierce opened the scoring 7:07 into the opening frame when, on the power play, Maggie Korneta lit the lamp for her two goal of the season. Moments later, the Ravens had an excellent chance to double their advantage, but Stone came up clutch, denying a 2-on-1 break into the Skyhawks' defensive zone to keep it a one-goal game.

Stonehill leveled the score at the 7:27 mark of the second when Bella and Gracie Sacca combined to force a turnover in the neutral zone and connected with Achtyl, who rifled a shot top shelf past Jill Hertl for her team-leading eighth goal of the year. After Achtyl evened the score at one, the two sides traded power-play opportunities, with the Skyhawks capitalizing on their second of the period—and third of the game—at the 19:11 mark when Russell fired a shot from the point into the back of the net for her first of two goals on the night.

A pair of special-teams goals—one on the power play from Abigail Broz at 2:04, and a shorthanded, unassisted tally from Jenna Sharland at 9:11—within the opening 10 minutes of the third gave Franklin Pierce back its one-goal lead. Less than a minute after Sharland's go-ahead strike, Russell lit the lamp again from nearly the same spot on the ice, scoring from the point off assists from Geist and Whynot at 10:07 of the final frame.

Continuing the back-and-forth action, Kenmore pounced on a loose puck in the crease and netted her first goal of the season, restoring the Skyhawks' advantage with just over seven minutes left in regulation.

In the final minutes, the Ravens leveled the score again when Laroche forced the puck over the goal line past Stone, sending the game to a 3-on-3, five-minute overtime. Just 21 seconds into the extra frame, Brynn Levinson whistled a shot inside the far post past the outstretched pad of Stone, securing the 5–4 victory for Franklin Pierce.
