Men's Soccer Battles Howard to a 1-1 Tie

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In their penultimate match of the regular season, the Stonehill men's soccer team carried its momentum down to the nation's capital as they battled Howard to a 1-1 tie on Sunday afternoon.

STONEHILL HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sophomore Nate Monteiro recorded his fourth goal of the season in the 29th minute to give the Skyhawks the lead.
  • Junior goalkeeper Kyle Tencza registered a pair of key saves in the tie.
  • The Skyhawks outshot the Bison, 13-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the 29th minute of the game of a scoreless match, Howard was bringing up through the middle of the field, but sophomore Nathan Monteiro disrupted the Bison momentum. Striping the ball away from the Bison defender, Monteiro quickly dribbled the ball the other way before firing a shot into the top right corner.

The Skyhawks took the one-goal advantage into the second half where they had to contend with a Bison team trying to preserve their post-season life. However, with under 20 minutes to play in the contest the Bison were able to score the equalizer and tie the match at 1-1.

Howard looked to take the lead with 12 minutes left on the clock, but junior goalkeeper Kyle Tencza made a diving play to pull the ball out of air to keep the match tied.
